Can I install my extensions myself or have my friend do it?
Hair extensions should always be installed by a certified professional extenionist.
Why do some hair extensions cost so much more than others?
There are several reasons. There are many different grades of hair and this is crucial to you having a good or bad experience. The highest grade/level virgin remy human hair is very expensive. There is a lot of hard work time and effort that goes in to ensuring the beauty and life span of the hair. There are mid-low grade/level virgin remy that are less expensive but are lacking the quality, beauty and the life is short lived. Then there is non remy which is a waste of money. There is also synthetic clip ins just for a night out.
How much do hair extensions cost?
The prices will depend on if you want volume, length, extra long length or a combination. The price also depends on the method you choose. It is best to confirm with the stylist first.
What can I do to prepare for having extensions installed?
Use a clarifying shampoo the night before or day of installation to make sure hair is very clean.
What is Remy hair?
It is hair that is cut from one donor. Its aligned strand by strand to make sure the cuticles remain aligned and intact. There are different grades/levels of remy hair.
Will the hair extensions shed?
Yes, although some extensions shed more than others.
Is it ok to use a brush and heat styling tools on hair extensions?
Yes, although the only brush you’ll want to use is a wet brush. After hair is almost dry, you can use a blow-dryer brush on the roots of your hair on the top of the head to add more volume. It is good to brush your hair at least once a day and always brush it before you shampoo. Always use heat protectant.
How do I shampoo my hair extensions?
Only use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Wet hair really well and lather shampoo in hands before putting in hair. Shampoo the scalp well two times. It is important to keep your scalp clean. Make sure you rinse the shampoo out well. Condition hair from mid-shaft down with a good hydrating conditioner or mask. Never get close to the scalp with the conditioner or oils. Towel dry hair and then use leave in conditioner and treatment oils from mid-shaft down.
Can I use styling products?
Yes, but don’t use too much as it will create a build up of product.
Can I color my hair extensions?
A professional stylist can color them, but only color, never try to lighten them.
Can I color my own hair while wearing hair extensions?
It is best if the stylist colors your hair, but you can do it yourself if you’re careful to keep color off of the tab. It is best to color before it is time to tighten the extensions. If the color gets on the tab it can cause the extension to slip.
What should I do to prepare for bed?
It is best to do a side braid or two braids. It is also a great idea to use a satin or silk pillowcase. You should never go to bed with your hair wet or with a conditioning treatment in your hair.
Can hair extensions be returned or exchanged?
No, there are no returns or exchanges on hair extensions, hair pieces or wigs.
If my hair is thin and fine can I still wear hair extensions?
Yes, depending on where you are thinning and the severity.
How long will my hair extensions last?
There are many factors to consider: Hair quality, the products used, water, climate, how often they are washed, heating tools and how well you take care of them. With proper care they can last 1 to 3 years. No two are the same.
Will the extensions damage my own hair?
Hair extensions should not damage your hair if properly installed, cared for and maintained. Some damage can come from going too long in between maintenance visits. It is good to know anytime the extensions are removed there will be a build up of hair, as hair strands shed naturally. When you have hair extensions, your shed hair is trapped in the attachment until you get them tightened and touched up. If there is too much growth in between the scalp and extension the shed hair can get trapped and natural hair can matt.
